2011年3月11日。
東北地方を襲った地震と津波は、世界を震撼させただけでなく
私たちの価値観を全て一変させる、そんな衝撃も与えた出来事でした。
この未曾有の震災を目の当たりにし、私たちは己の小ささを感じつつも
日本が、そして世界が「今、私たちに何ができるのだろうか？」という思いで
ひとつになったのは確かです。
その大きな気運の中に、国内外のアーティスト達も声をあげています。
「今、アートができることは何だろう？」と。
私たちは、世界中のアーティストから寄せられてくる熱意を受け止めていくうちに、
この思いをひとつにし、被災地の方々へ必ず届けるべきではないか、
と考えるようになりました。
これがアート・ボランティア組織「ART-AID」を立ち上げるきっかけとなったのです。
今の日本を、アートの力で支援できることは限られているかもしれませんが、
民族も国境も越えたアートという共通言語だから成せる
壮大なパワーを秘めているのも確かです。
そして、そのアーティスト達の思いを信じてくれる支援者も、世界各国にいるのです。
「ART-AID」は、そのふたつの思いを、ひとつにします。
まずは、6月にスイスのバーゼル市で、
被災地の今、を的確に伝えると共に、賛同アーティストの作品を通じて
復興への思いを共有し、前へ進んでいく力を被災地に届けます。
また、展示会場などで募る募金を全て被災孤児の奨学金として寄付します。
「ART-AID」は、参加アーティストをはじめ、
実行委員会メンバーもすべて無償ボランティアで活動します。
多くの方々に「ART-AID」の趣旨を深くご理解していただくと共に
温かいご支援を賜りたく存じます。

On 11th March 2011 the massive earthquake and tsunami struck the Tohoku region. The disaster not only shocked the world but also changed our perspective of life.
While witnessing the scale of the devastation unfold in front of us, we have started to think about what we could do to help those affected by the tragedy, despite the fact that the event made us feel completely powerless.
Artists from Japan and other countries have started raising their voices to say, “What can we do right now?”
Receiving enthusiastic responses from many artists who want to support the people in need in the Tohoku region lead us to start a voluntary organization called “Art Aid.”
Ways in which art can get involved may be limited, but it has an enormous power to cross the boundaries because of its universal appeal.
There are also many people all over the world who believe in the power of art, and “Art Aid” is intended to bring these two beliefs together.
ART-AID will introduce to the world what is actually happening in the devastated area right now and also offer people in the area the power to move on by sharing the hope for reconstruction at the exhibition at ART 42 Basel in June.
We will also be collecting donations from sales made at the exhibition and also donations collected from exhibition visitors to orphans of the earthquake for their education.
ART-AID committee members and artists who participate in the exhibition all work as volunteers.

Am 11. März 2011 erschütterten ein gewaltiges Erbeben und ein Tsunami die Region Tohoku. Diese Katastrophe machte uns sehr betroffen und veränderte unsere Perspektive auf das Leben. Obwohl wir uns zunächst hilflos fühlten im Anblick der Verwüstung, begannen wir uns zu überlegen, wie wir den Betroffenen helfen könnten. Kunstschaffende aus Japan und anderen Ländern begannen sich zu fragen: “Was können wir jetzt tun?”
In Antwort auf die Reaktionen vieler Künstler, welche die Menschen in Not in der Tohoku Region unterstützen wollten, gründeten wir die Freiwilligenorganisation “ART-AID”.
Kunst verfügt über die Macht, Grenzen durch ihre universelle Anziehungskraft zu überwinden. ART-AID hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, den betroffenen Menschen durch das Medium Kunst zu helfen.
Eine von ART-AID organisierte Ausstellung, die parallel zur Art 42 Basel stattfindet, reflektiert die Situation in den verwüsteten Gebieten aus einer künstlerischen Perspektive und will den Menschen in der Unglücksregion Hoffnung für die Zukunft geben.
An der Ausstellung werden wir zudem Spenden für einen Stipendienfonds zur Unterstützung der durch das Erdbeben zu Waisen gewordenen Kinder sammeln.
